I installed three new modules in my efforts to get my blog up to par with WordPress and BlogSpot. My wife Valerie, whose blog is at nothingbetterthanablankpage.blogspot.com, is a heavy user of the scheduling function. She does multiple blog entries then schedules them for daily release. I wanted to do the same thing, so I installed the following: Scheduler - this allows me to set a time to publish any node.

Read More...I had several issues I wanted to address with regard to this blog. First, I wanted a tag cloud so that readers could easily find posts based on the tags. I also realized that Drupal's Clean URL's were not producing blog-like, Google-friendly URLs for my posts. So I added three new modules to this Drupal site tonight while watching the Presidential Debate. Path - this is a core module that is required for Pathauto. Pathauto - allows me to automatically set the URL and setup rules to automatically name the URLs. Works wonderfully.

Here is an image from a recent report about Tyler Brothers, showing the impact of a permission-based email that was sent to about 500 Tyler Brothers customers. You can see that site visits doubled on days when the emails were distributed.

Then I thought of this one: Because there's more to life than pizza. Of course this is a reference to my New York Pizza Blog and the New York Pizza Finder. It really is a much clearer picture of why I'm doing this blog. I have really struggled with coming up with new things to say about New York Style Pizza.
Read More...I've become a pretty big fan of Google Analytics and the more I dig into it the more I can learn from the various reports it provides. GoogleAnalytics is just about the easiest Drupal module to install-- it can't get much easier.
Read More...I would not have visited Point Lobos Reserve this week if it had not been for my social network. About a year ago, my friend Chris introduced me to his friend Kurt. A few months later, Kurt invited me to breakfast where I met George. In May, George, Kurt, and I walked the length of the Art Loeb Trail in Pisgah Forest.

I installed the Drupal Captcha module and configured it to hopefully prevent any more spam. A couple notes about getting this right. For me, the default font was unacceptably hard to read. I had to install additional True-type fonts by creating a fonts folder under the modules/captcha/image_captcha folder and copying in a number of fonts. I used the "liberation fonts" that I had downloaded previously.
