Resizing Photos in Batch with FastStone Photo Resizer

I am loading an online store with several hundred product images. Unfortunately, all images in the vendor's catalog CD is all in tif format. The images are huge and need to be converted to JPG. ProStores does not allow you to upload tif for product images, and now that I know how huge they are I wouldn't want to anyway. I went to download.com and found a free product that might do what I needed. I needed to convert several hundred images from tif to jpg, and I'd like to re-size them while I'm at it. I'm pleased to say that I found FastStone Photo Resizer 2.6, which did exactly what I wanted and did it very quickly. The program tells you how much space you're saving as it converts the items. For me, most items were being converted from tif to jpg and then resized to 65%, and that resulted in approximately 98% space savings on average. If I had resized and converted these images manually, it would have taken days. It took me 10 minutes to find the software, 5 minutes to download and install, and 30 minutes to convert over 1000 images. (I didn't need all of them, but I might eventually, so I went ahead and converted them all now.) The storage for the images went from 2 DVDs to 65 MB. Pretty impressive. I don't claim to have a great eye, but the image quality looks great, certainly good enough for a web site. Over the next few weeks, you will see these images begin to appear at www.tylerbrothers.net. FastStone Photo Resizer-- Highly recommended by the Broadstreet blogger.
